Vegas, baby!

1) Vegas is every bit the tawdry, gaudy schlock-fest it’s billed as. I felt a sort of bemused contemptuous awe for almost everything I saw there. Shiny!
2) The gambling demon, Gamblor, had no power over me. The high point of the weekend gambling-wise was when I was playing the Star Wars penny slots and whatever I got when I pulled the lever triggered a computer game in which I got to blow up the Death Star. Awesome! But other than that, the gambling was tedious or just depressing as my money trickled away. In total, I spent less than $15 gambling, and have no interest in doing it again.
3) I finally know what those giant rawhide bones are for. You know the rawhide bones that you see at the pet store that are so big you can’t imagine what would eat them, the ones that look like the thigh bone of a rawhidasaurus rex? Lions. Lions tear through one of those things in about fifteen minutes. The lions in the lobby of the MGM Grand were SERIOUSLY cool, we sat for quite a while and and watched the lions playing and goofing around and biting each other. We also chatted with one of the trainers, which yielded an amusing tidbit: E: "Will the lions chase a laser pointer like a cat?" Trainer: "They'll chase ANYTHING that gets into their enclosure... leaves, debris, chipmunks..." Heh. But it’s a neat setup – the lions live on a ranch, but they come visit the hotel in a special room that’s sound- and smell-proof, so the lions are calm and happy because they can’t hear or smell the tasty, tasty tourists all around them.
4) I do like roller coasters, it’s true. But I never, ever, EVER again want to ride a roller coaster that drops you over the edge of a skyscraper. Mommy!
5) Good friends will make or break a place. Honestly, almost everything I saw or did in Vegas exists in some form at home. Roller coasters? Check. Nifty animals? Check. Gambling? Check. Exotic shows? Check. Shopping? Check. Fine dining? Check, check, check. But getting to do those things with friends from all over the country? That, more than anything else, made it a marvelous weekend.

I am very happy you came to Las Vegas :) and look forward to doing more fun things with you when time and location are the same *nods*

Date: 2005-12-06 12:54 pm (UTC)Vegas is... odd. The most fun I had was doing everything aside from gambling, but I also had a native guide while I was there. There was one time, however... playing $5 blackjack with a margarita in hand and a girl on my arm, that was just classic Vegas. That, was fun.
